The Brief: Drum up some new gigs for my Creative Consulting business. Explore and get an understanding of new technologies and in general, how to use Internet of Things in a new and fun way.
Inspiration: I'd been researching the connected home and loved the idea of the new(ish) Amazon Dash Buttons.
At the same time, I was reading the (fantastic) Iain M Bank novel, "Matter." I was fantasizing about how cool a high tech butler would be.
Looking at all this through my personal work lens, I had the idea of becoming the first "Push Button Man" - an update on the old "ring the bell" for the butler system.
I like this mix of old and new, PR stunt, utility and humor, so it all "snapped together" nicely.
Solution: Spent a while researching if it would be possible to have a Dash Button within agencies, whereby a client could simply press the button to summon me for a creative project. An "Emergency Creative Director" button. The initial set-up is quite involved but it is possible.
I ordered up a programmable button from Amazon, made a quick visual mock up, wrote a press release and emailed it to my media list (taking care to contact people who had run initial stories on the Dash Buttons). I also sent a general email to my contacts list plus postings on personal social and LinkedIN.
